Elliotts of Newbury was founded by Samuel Elliott in 1870. The Company began by producing ammunition boxes during WWI before moving to furniture manufacture. During WWII they were well known for producing aircraft components for Spitfires and Tiger Moths. They mainly employed a female workforce as can be seen in this WWII wartime video
After the war they produced a limited amount of furniture whilst concentrating on the manufacture of gliders. The company stopped trading in 1970 and closed in 1974.
